4th Grade Parent Information

Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year! We hope the following information will answer some questions that you may have about the upcoming year.

Attendance
The school day begins at 7:40. Please make sure that your child is in the classroom by this time! Students will be marked tardy if they arrive after 7:40 or leave before dismissal at 2:20. The school building opens at 7:20 each day.

If your child is absent, please call the office (241-1271) to let them know or send a note when the student returns explaining why s/he is absent. Without a phone call or note, your child’s absence will be recorded as unexcused.

Transportation Changes
PLEASE send a note in the morning about any change in how your child is getting home from school. WE MUST HAVE A WRITTEN NOTE of any change in order for the office to issue a transportation change. However, please do NOT write the note in the student assignment notebook.

Assignment Notebooks
Each fourth grade student will have an assignment notebook as requested on the supply list. This is a valuable communication tool for teacher, parent, and student. It is the responsibility of each student to correctly copy the assignment page each day. Please read the assignments & notes daily. Students are required to get a parent’s signature (not initials) on the bottom of the page nightly. This allows your child’s teacher to know that you are aware of assignments and are supporting your child to complete them. The assignment notebook is also a great place to communicate with the teacher. If you have a question or a comment, please feel free to write it down and look for a response in the notebook, an e-mail, or a phone call. We realize that parent communication is a major part of student success, and we want you to be informed!

Safety
When visiting the school, it is extremely important that you sign in and wear a visitor’s pass sticker. You are welcomed to visit your child’s classroom. The Oldham County Board of Education requires that all visitors must give a teacher 24 hours notice prior to visiting the classroom and you may visit up to an hour.

Contacting Teachers
You may contact your child’s teacher by note, phone or e-mail. For your child’s safety we are not permitted to use your child’s name in any e-mail correspondence. Please do not use names in your e-mail concerning your child. Initials or the first letter of the name will be sufficient. If you have not heard back within a 24 hours period, it is possible the teacher did not receive the message, and you should attempt again. Fourth grade teacher planning time is 9:15 to 10:00 each day.

Lunch
Each child has their own account number; please include your child’s name and account number on checks when sending funds for lunch accounts. When sending in cash, please place cash in an envelope or baggie with the student’s name and account number clearly labeled.  You are welcome to eat lunch with your child after receiving confidentiality training. Please sign in at the office and get a visitor’s sticker and meet us in the lobby.

Related Arts
The children will have Related Arts daily. Students will rotate through Art, Music and P.E. Ask your child about which activity they are currently in. Children must wear tennis shoes on P.E. and Fitness Friday days.

Volunteers/Confidentiality
We really appreciate your help and support at home and through PTA activities! Sometimes we will need extra help in the classroom. We will begin to have volunteers in mid September. Younger siblings are not allowed in the classroom during instruction time. In order to work with students, you will need to attend a Confidentiality Training session with our school counselor. This training needs to be attended every year. Look for times and dates of the training session to be announced soon. You will also need to have a background check.

Birthday Treats/Invitations
We are always excited to acknowledge birthdays in the classroom. Camden Station has a NO FOOD policy, please do not send in any food items for celebrations. If your child invites the whole class to a birthday event, then you may send invitations to school to go home with students. Please mail invitations if only some of the students are invited.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Allen               Ms. Campbell       Mrs. Shutt
